Spent some time cruising through the Danish Design Museum to look at some chairs. Quick sketches from the sketchbook of some assorted designs. I hope to see more furniture and do some more drawings especially when the Scan | Design Furniture Studio travels to Copenhagen with Erling Christoffersen. The museum is small and perhaps awkward at times because I think a portion of the museum is being renovated. But the permanent exhibit offers all the classic Danish chairs, Arne Jacobson product design, and some assorted hand drawings.
I found out I was the first new intern to arrive of the new wave of incoming interns. Only half will start beginning in February. More are scheduled to come later this month. My guess is there is roughly 15 interns from all over. That puts COBE at 100. The office is quite crowded. We set-up additional desks today. The majority of interns are Danish, German and Polish. But there is an intern coming from India and another from Malaysia. So they will have me beat for distance traveled.
I began on a project in Toronto. Most likely because they are working in both metric and imperial so I am the acting translator. This was a competition that COBE won and the project is now in the design phase. It is a luxury housing tower and will be the tallest project COBE has yet done if the project goes through. Right now I have only started design studies in rhino analyzing different massing studies, facade treatments, and unit layouts. There is a lot of communication with other consultants for this project so we have been at the mercy of certain unknowns.
All the interns were told to be mindful of what you post on social media and the internet regarding what the firm is working on. This is because they are working on competitions throughout Europe competing with many firms and do not want to risk losing a project. Many works, graphics and models are to remain confidential unless they have been publicly announced.
